   adventurer
   of unknown origin, the count de Saint-Germain, as he was known, was famous in France between 1750 and 1760. He astonished the salons and the royal court by his prodigious memory, his talent at storytelling, and his spiritualist practices. He claimed to have been living since the time of Christ. The count de Saint-Germain died in Eck-ernforde, Schleswig-Holstein.
